the designer

This is my story...

Hi, I'm Phyllis Atha, a web designer, graphic designer, photographer and muralist based based in South Lake Tahoe, CA, so if you’re local we can sit face-to-face for in person communication. Or we can meet virtually. You can access unique and creative image and design talent from anywhere in the world. I grew up in Bakersfield and worked my way through college at San Jose State University. I've lived in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Los Gatos, Grass Valley, Carlsbad (north San Diego County), Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe.

What I love most... my family and friends, my dog Sophie, a great adventure, expressing my creativity, using my talents and being of benefit to people and the planet – in other words, making a difference in the world.

The things I enjoy... art, music, learning, laughing and making people laugh, interior design, traveling, politics, movies, painting, writing, museums, good tasting (organic) food , beauty, being in the water (especially snorkeling), comfort, and moments of enlightenment.

My artwork... Before becoming a web and graphic designer, I was a painter (oil, acrylic, watercolor) and taught art.

My travels... hitched hiked all over Europe on my own, (when I was just 22) and worked when money ran short. I've visited Japan and Hong Kong, took a 75 day trip on my own to Africa, India and Nepal, visited Jamaica, Puerto Rico and Hawaii and drove across America and up and down each coast.

“I don't know how to thank you for all the years of loyal and wonderful support you have given to the Network and to me. Your expertise and artistic skill made our materials stand out and drew many comments. I was so happy to be able to rely on you.”
– John McLevie, Ph.D.,
President The Episcopal Refugee Network
“I was extremely fortunate to find out about Phyllis. She is a talented, skilled, organized, articulate and cooperative graphic/web designer. She has been extremely responsive and has a great eye for what makes the site look and work great.”
–  Michael S. Denison, Ph.D. Professor, UC Davis
“I cannot begin to thank you enough for getting us started and then mothering us through the process. I am always thrilled when I go to the website, it is unique and really speaks to the enthusiasm that you share with us.”
–  Elaine McLevie, Ph.D.
“Phyllis has designed a Website and four books for me. I think the two things I have been most appreciative of are her artistic abilities, and the way she seems to have an almost intuitive understanding of what I am after. Her work is beautiful and she is a delight to work with.”
–  Dr. Lawrence Hart, OPA
“In 2002, Phyllis visited Uganda with our founders, Dr. Scott and Carol Kellermann, and her enthusiasm for our work has been a blessing ever since. She created our first website and has done a masterful job maintaining and updating it over the years. Phyllis approaches her work with a true artist's mind and heart. She is creative, supportive, quick to respond to requests, and accommodating of our needs and wishes. Phyllis is also proactive about learning the latest skills for best practices in design and web maintenance. She is a dedicated professional and eager to make a positive impact with her work.”
–  Sally Stillings,
Executive Director, The Kellermann Foundation
